I then unplugged the mic from my sound card and recaptured the video. I figured this was the problem because I was writing another track simultaneously when the video was captured, just by having the mic plugged in to the sound card. I then noticed that a microphone was attached to my computer and I could actually hear myself talk through the speakers when I was capturing the video. I can hear the audio if I turn all volumes up to max (in mixer and voice bar). I have since imported the tapes about 5 or 6 times and each time the audio is "nearly" muted. The 1st time I captured the video, there was sound, but part of the video was truncated. I just purchased Vegas 8c and am trying to make my 1st DVD. I have a very strange problem that I have spent way too much time on.
